Jamie Logan is a pioneer modern rock climbing in the U.S., having “freed” such classic routes as the Diamond on Colorado’s Long’s Peak. At 71, Logan is pioneering a new kind of path, living as a woman. She calls it her biggest leap of faith yet, in a decades-long career full of daring first ascents.
In recent years she changed her name from Jim to Jamie and began wearing in public the clothes she has always felt most comfortable in. The response from the climbing community in her longtime home of Boulder, Colorado, has been overwhelmingly positive, Logan says.
“The day I walked into this building [Momentum Boulder] – this building I designed – in my bra, with all my climbing friends around, it just felt so amazing,” Logan says.
Logan will share her story on stage for the first time as part of the kick-off to the Rare Air Talks outdoor adventure speaker series, on May 17 at The Studio Boulder. Tickets at RareAirTalks.com.
